Not everyone’s opinion matters!
This may sound rather harsh, but I think it is an important thought to keep in mind. One of the hardest things that I ever had to learn was that not everyone will like you. Sometimes we can get caught up in the idea that we must be accepted by everyone. It was a hard lesson for me, and this can be one of the absolute most self-destructive cycles to be sucked into.
NOT EVERYONE NEEDS TO LIKE YOU!!
Learn it; live it; love it. (or not)
Not only that, but there are going to be people with whom you will become acquainted that you won’t even want to like you. People that would cause you to duck down in the seat of the car or turn your face into your collar to avoid them while you penguin waddle down the opposite side of the road in an effort not to be recognized.
Apparently when you try to sneak down the road while doing an approximate impersonation of Spy vs Spy normal people think you’re odd.
There are many things in my own life that I need to work on every day.
I tend to avoid my problems rather than meet them head on. I am awful about it, and I try every day to improve. Nevertheless, it’s been a hard journey. I have fought my own insecurity and lack of self-confidence to get to the point where I can say that so and so does not care for me without feeling a single ounce of anxiety or fear of some kind of consequences just because another person is not enamoured of me.
Basically, I had to develop a healthy sense of personal sovereignty.
As with all journeys, it is a task in progress. I still have to remind myself that I am more than what others think of me, and so are you. Choose wisely those whose opinions matter to you, and always remember you are wonderful in your own right.
