Ah, sleep. Beautiful glorious life-giving sleep. Picture this: there’s a chill in the air. Night shrouds the sky in a sable blanket, broken only by the light of millions of tiny stars. You snuggle deeply into your soft mattress, bundled securely in fluffy blankets, your head cradled by the fluff of a feather pillow. Every muscle in your body relaxes. Each breath is deep and slow, and peace is all that you feel.
Doesn’t get better than that does it?
Unfortunately for many of us, this is not even a weekly occurrence, never mind a nightly one.
There are genuinely so many reasons to advocate for adequate rest that it is impossible to list them all. Good sleep habits can increase productivity, improve memory, and lower stress.
It is easy in our fast-paced lives for us to allow our sleep to suffer. People are getting less sleep than ever, and the quality of sleep is even further decreased. We all rehash our day or plan for the next. Small stresses accumulate over weeks or months, and as our sleep time and quality decrease this problem compounds.
Don’t get caught in this cycle!
Adding a nightly ritual to your bedtime routine can help you get to sleep easier and faster. Perhaps you would enjoy doing a quick meditation or listening to an ASMR video to put you in that sleepy mood. Evaluate your mattress and pillows. Are they comfortable? If not, it may be a good idea to replace them. Avoiding naps, keeping light to a minimum, and setting a sleep schedule can also help.
Most importantly, keep in mind that a healthy and well rested you is a productive you. Don’t feel like you’re not getting enough done just because you need to take time to rest.
