We all come in different shapes and sizes. Unfortunately, society will tell us that we are less beautiful than others because we are too big, too small, or even that we have the wrong hair color!
Beauty standards are different around the world and even within different areas of certain countries. Magazine photos portray people in ways that are blatantly created by photoshop, and yet we attempt to recreate them at home, sometimes with disastrous results.
No one should ever develop such low self-esteem that they become affected with anorexia, bulimia, or even attempt suicide because they feel that they cannot be accepted for themselves!
It’s easy to say that we should all learn to appreciate ourselves. Telling ourselves that we are a strong warrior or that we are a beautiful goddess sounds great, but it does little good unless we believe it.
Repetition helps, of course. Just like what you hear from others, the more that you repeat something to yourself the more you believe it. So be kind to yourself. Whenever you look in the mirror, choose at least one thing about yourself that is on point that day and offer yourself a compliment. If you have done something that highlights your talents and intelligence, then compliment those. Partake in daily meditations or affirmations that make you feel good about you. Commend your quirky sense of style, your experimental updo, or your perfectly lined brows.
My husband calls this technique the “fake it ‘til you make it,” but I like to consider it replacing a bad habit with a better one.
In short order, you will find yourself doing these affirmations as a matter of course. It may take a bit of time. Psychologists once said that it took only 21 days to form a new habit. More recently European scientists found that it took an average of 66 days. Give yourself time to change your mind. After all, it took you years to get to where you are.
We are all just wandering the paths of life, and we are all in different stages of our journey. Be who you are. Love yourself for who you are. Every single person on this planet is beautiful. Each of us is talented. You are worth so much more that you know. You are a stunning and wonderful person. You are a star. You just need to learn to let your light shine.
Celebrate yourself. You are awesome. You are beautiful. You can do this!
